Visit famous cultural and historical structures in Hanoi and see Puppetry – a unique Vietnamese art form depicting rural scenes and periods of national history.
With ochre-colored colonial buildings, tree-lined boulevards and scenic lakes, Hanoi is full of charm. Start the tour to day at the Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest of all pagodas in Hanoi – located beside the dazzling West Lake. Wind your way afterwards to the Ho Chi Minh Complex. Passing Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum where the preserved body of Ho Chi Minh is kept before walking to the backyard for paying a visit the simple Uncle Ho’s house which is made of wood and enjoys a tranquil setting, with a view of a lotus pond. Ho Chi Minh’s belongings are on display and you can walk up the steps of his house to see his bedroom. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Literature, the first University for the sons of mandarins, for an overview about Hanoian culture and appreciation for ancient Vietnamese architecture. Continue on to the serene Museum of Ethnology, a 20-minute drive out of town that offers a fascinating insight into Vietnam’s 54 ethnic minority groups. There is an extensive collection from simple daily objects such as fishing tools to prized items such as jewelry as well as an outdoor area with ethnic long houses. Drive back to central Hanoi for a walking tour through the Old Quarter to enjoy the bustling local life, then cap off the day with a show at the water puppet theatre – a uniquely northern Vietnamese art form depicting scenes of rural life and episodes of national history.
