In the morning, depart for a 1.5-hour drive to the ancient village of Duong Lam, a typical agricultural village in the north of the Red River Delta. Home to around 300 houses built three or four centuries ago, wander along Duong Lam’s narrow alleyways to explore rural life and Vietnam’s ancient architecture. The cultural and historical vestiges of Duong Lam include Mong Phu Communal House, Mia Pagoda (built in the 15th century), and the Old Catholic church. The village well – the traditional feature of communal life – is also worth a look. Before leaving the village, you will visit an ancient house owned by a couple where you can have a chat with the friendly owners and share their life experiences over a cup of tea. Then, we visit the Tay Phuong pagoda – a wonderful collection of Arhat statues featuring the fine art of Vietnamese sculpture circa 17th century on the way back to Hanoi.
